finally got around to posting a picture of my tattoo.
All Time Low isn’t my favorite band, and Therapy isn’t even my favorite song by them. But the first time I heard the lyrics “love yourself so no one has to” … it was like, an awakening.
For my entire life, I always judged how lovable I was by how much other people loved me. I went out of my way, did things i didn’t want to do, gave people everything I had… just so they would love me.
i’ve learned that that wasn’t and isn’t love.
Love is reciprocation: you doing something for someone, and expecting nothing in return… but they return it anyway.
Love is trust: giving someone your entire heart, and knowing they won’t hurt you.
Love is loyalty: supporting someone, even if you don’t agree with their choices.
and most of all, real love isn’t affected by time, or distance. it’s something that can never be touched, or broken.
But most importantly? i learned that i can’t really, truly love another person unless I really, truly love myself.
So, that’s why I got this. As a reminder that no one has to love me. That as long as I love me, I’ll be okay.
